 Please contact the lab for the appropriate bottles and chain of custody. For your convenience, they can be picked up at the lab or mailed to you.

For home loans requiring a third party to take the sample, please contact the lab to set up an appointment for one of our highly trained technicians to come take the sample.

Well Disinfection Information

Prior arrangements need to be made and the price doubles for Bacteria and Nitrate samples brought in on a Friday.

                                                                               Directions to take the sample:

1. The sterilized bottle is to be used for sampling drinking and domestic water supplies. Be careful not to touch the inside of the bottle or cap at any time. The pill is to remain in the bottle for the bacteria test.
2. If requesting a nitrate test, you need two separate bottles that do not contain a pill.
3. Do not sample swing neck kitchen sink faucets.
4. Turn the water on full stream for approximately 2-3 minutes. Turn water off.
5. Sterilize the faucet spout with a lighter or other flame. Remove the faucet screen prior to flaming. Heat the spout thoroughly to kill any bacteria.
6. Turn the water back on full stream for approximately 2-3 minutes. Turn down to mid stream and fill the bottle. Do not adjust the flow rate while filling the bottle.
7. Fill the sample bottle to the shoulder of the bottle. Do not overfill.
8. If sample is not delivered within 2 hours, it must be kept at or below 6oF. Samples that are hand delivered to the lab immediately after collection may not meet the thermal preservation requirements. In these cases, the sample shall be considered acceptable if there is evidence that the chilling process has begun. (i.e. samples are on raw ice)

* If you are requesting a lead test, you must collect the water as a 1st draw after an 6 hour period of not running water.

* Not following these instructions completely may result in a false positive test result.
